System requirements

Windows server 2003 or 2008
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (not fully tested yet)
Visual Studio 2008 (sp1 preferably)
WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007 on the server.

To install, run and use the addin you must have read / write permissions in the 12-hive and administrator privilages on the local sharepoint farm installation. For best experience you should run in administrator mode. Please follow micrsoft guidelines on how to set up a developer machine for sharepoint projects found here

If run in a domain configuration with active directory server and separate SQL server, make sure your user while working with SPVisualDev has sufficient permissions to the sharepoint configuration database.

Windows server 2008, Vista and windows 7 users

You need to run the install package (msi) with elevated privileges (RunAs Administrator) if you have UAC enabled. Run "msiexec /i [path to msi package]" from a command prompt opened as administrator.
Because of the tightened security, make sure you run as an administrator during install and also when using Visual Studio together with SPVIsualDev. I found during testing that turning the UAC off on the developer machine is the best and least annoying setting :-)
